Power Flushing - what is it?
If your boiler or central heating system makes strange mechanical or loud noises, it may have poor circulation. This can be caused by corrosion deposits building up inside the system itself. Power Flushing is the process by which central heating systems and radiators are forcibly cleansed using high velocity, low pressure water. The objective is to restore your heating system to it's optimum operation. A Powerflush removes these deposits and the problems that they cause.
We recommend power flushing central heating radiators immediately before fitting a new boiler. Most existing systems will contain corrosion and sludge. The high efficiency and compactness of modern boilers, developed to minimise fuel costs and pollution, means that they are more susceptible to problems caused by debris in water. Debris tends to accumulate in the heat exchanger, causing noisy operation, reduced efficiency and, in extreme circumstances, failure of the boiler.
Power Flushing ProcessA power flushing pump or machine is connected to the heating system. The flow of water will then dislodge any deposits in the system. Once the corrosion or deposits of sludge have been loosened, clean water is forced through the heating system, pushing the contaminated water out through a waste valve. Central heating radiators are individually flushed, without disconnecting them from the system, by connecting the pump to each radiator separately. |

At the end of the power flushing process, the system contains only clean water and the system is ready for operation. Power flushing will not remedy design or mechanical faults, which should be rectified, but in many cases it can cure the problems caused by these.
We recommend a power flush with every new boiler installation. In fact most manufacturers now demand this and failure to comply will result in the invalidation of your warranty.
